Flight Simulator 95/98 finally running on 64-bit Windows, patched by Claude Code
A lifelong fan of Flight Simulator successfully patched FS95 and FS98 to run on 64-bit Windows, leveraging Claude Code. The solution involved registering a game routine as a vectored exception handler using AddVectoredExceptionHandler, adding 86 bytes at the program's entry point. This patch specifically addresses division faults, allowing both games to run without issues on modern 64-bit Windows systems. The FS95 routine is in DIVTRAP.DLL, while FS98's is in its EXE.
This marks the first time Flight Simulator 95/98 has been successfully patched to run on 64-bit Windows, unlike previous attempts that failed to address specific division faults.
