How I am using AI in Nonprofit Accounting Work
An individual is leveraging AI, specifically Claude, to assist with nonprofit accounting tasks. They utilize AI to map current accounts to proposed accounts by loading a template nonprofit Chart of Accounts and various financial statements. The user emphasizes the necessity of reviewing every AI output, likening it to a highly educated, intelligent, but inexperienced intern.

I am partial to Claude and I do a lot of work for a variety of nonprofits. Some of the ways AI has been useful are:
- Extract payment data from Stripe to make it easier to post in the accounting package
- I have a template nonprofit Chart of Accounts. I load the COA and various financial statemeents and get a mapping of current accounts to proposed accounts
- I load the audit report response and get recommendations.
I hope it is obvious that you have to review every output but it really acts as an intern who is highly educated, very intelligent, but very inexperienced.
